Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (RQF)

 

Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is an entry level teaching qualification designed to prepare trainee teachers/trainers or those already in a teaching or training role to teach in a wide range of contexts. If you work or want to work as a teacher/trainer in higher or futher education, if you have just started in a teaching or training role and are looking for the next step, if you work with learners on a one-to-one basis or teach inhouse then this is the qualification for you. This qualification can be achieved easily if you have already completed some learning and development units that can be carried over to this qualification, or if you are already working as an assessor and would like to add a teaching qualification to your portfolio, or if you have already completed the Level 3 Award in Education and Training or PTLLS and would like to progress. It requires observation and assessment of practice and the range of optional units available provide opportunities to contextualise the qualification for different learning environments.

 

How long will it take?

The total qualification time for this qualification is 360 hours and of these 140 hours are recommended as guided learning hours, you have 6 months to complete from enrollment but some people have completed in as little as 4 weeks.

 

Topics covered

These include understanding roles and responsibilities, planning to meet the needs of learners, delivering, assessing learners and using resources for education and training, as well as an extensive range of optional units. If you have already completed some of the additional units’ opportunities to carry these over can be explored with your assessor, known as RPL (Recognition or Prior Learning) to save completing the same units again.

 

The mandatory units are:

  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
  • Planning to meet the needs of learners in education and training
  • Delivering education and training
  • Assessing learners in education and training
  • Using resources for education and training

 

Our standard additional unit is:

  • Developing, using and organising resources within a specialist area.

 

Assessment method

This qualification is assessed by a portfolio of evidence, including the use of initial and diagnostic assessments, three observations of teaching or training at least 1 hour each, video evidence, written assignments, teaching evidence and witness testimony’s. The observed sessions can be done on any topic of your choice, preferably the subject that you specialise in. You would be observed and assessed by a tutor/assessor for at least 3 hours out of the 30 hours of teaching practice. The assessor may observe you live, via Zoom or video recording.

 

Entry requirements

To enroll on this course you must be a minimum of 19 years old, be working as a teacher/trainer or delivering training voluntarily to allow for workplace observations, have good reading and writing skills in English, have good research and organisation skills and the time to commit to this intensive qualification, be qualified in the subject you are delivering and be able to evidence this, have access to 30 hours of teaching practice (an endorsed log is required), hold a minimum of a level 2 qualification in English, Mathematics and ICT and provide evidence of this and be able to provide a valid form of photographic identification.

Self Study Enrolment

The self study Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training course covers the same theory as is covered in the class based course, there is no mention of the mode of study on the certificate, you get the same certificate whether you attend the classroom course or an online course.

Self study allows you the freedom to go through the resource materials in your own time, as soon as you book the course by making the payment one of our training team will get the application form and initial assessment emailed out to you within 24 hours, the course book is a physical copy and will be posted out to you, again usually within 24 hours. This gives you the freedom of starting the course when it suits you, rather than waiting for a classroom course. Possible Results

PASS / REFER / FAIL -  This qualification is graded as pass/fail and we are dedicated to ensuring that as many learners as possible are successful in receiving their qualification. If there are things that need amending on your theory assignments, the assessor would give you action points with guidance on how to achieve them in the next go. (Once you are done with your theory assignments and the 3 practical teaching session observations, you would be more than ready to be certificated!!!)
